Shih Tzu Dog Carrier Bag

Part of the fun of owning a little dog like a Shih Tzu is that they are so small and can easily fit into an over-the-shoulder bag. This makes traveling with the dog, and otherwise sharing your life with your furry friend, very easy. Good quality dog carrier bags start at US$100 and can be a thoughtful gift.

Each airline has its own requirements for travel with dogs. You need to check the dimensions of your carriers if they are within a specific airline carrier’s guidelines. You should note that there’s more to airline travel with dogs than the carrier. There may be restrictions on the type of dog and number of dogs. There are usually requirements on the age.

Remember, airlines also distinguish between requirements for carriers inside the cabin and as cargo and for hard and soft dog carriers. Consider the following when it comes to airline dog travel:

  • Most airlines require your pet to be at least eight weeks old.
  • You should let your pet become acquainted with his or her pet carrier prior to travel. Pets become much less stressed that way.
  • Airlines may require a health certificate for your Shih Tzu prior to travel that should be issued by your veterinarian within 30 days of travel.
  • Check that cargo is shipped on your specific flight if you want your Shih Tzu to travel by cargo. This is not always available in the hot summer months or when it’s very cold. If you want to use cargo, make sure you have the appropriate pet carrier for that trip.
